How to Get Squarespace and Flodesk Talking!

Collecting Emails

If you are new to Flodesk and Squarespace, this blog will teach you how to create a form in Flodesk, that you can connect to Squarespace, in order to collect email addresses for a workshop (or other program) waitlist. If that sounds confusing, I am breaking it down for you, so hang with me a little longer. I also created a video, if that is more in-tune with your learning style, or utilize both!

Tutorial on how to connect Squarespace and Flodesk for collecting email names for a workshop or program. No code needed!

Step One: Squarespace Mailing List

Create a space on your website to announce your program. In this example, I am creating an email list for a free workshop that will be hosted in the future. It can be on an existing services page, or you can set up a separate landing page. If you are creating a whole page, and want to remove the header and footer, from that page only, it will require code. More on that here. Inside the Square has the best tutorials on adding code. IMO

Step Two: Call to Action

Add a button on your announcement page with the language that reflects your CTA (call to action), i.e. “Join the Waitlist.”

Step Three: Email Automation

Go to a new tab, open Flodesk, and create a new form. You will need to name the trigger, “joins workshop waitlist,” or whatever else you want to title it. Create a graphic and text to reflect your program. To make this simple, use the same text and graphic you used on your Squarespace landing page. Not only will this be easier for you, it will be consistent and lets the client know they are in the right place.

Step Four: Email Sequence

This is not really the next step, but it is something you can do if you want. You can create a sequence in order to update your list with information on the workshop. This is fully customizable, so you can add 2 emails to the sequence or 10. I don’t recommend 10, as your potential buyer may not appreciate that many, and your open rate will be low.

Step Five: URL Link

Copy the URL generated by Flodesk, and paste that link in your button information on your Squarespace site. I leave both tabs open to switch between the two, while I am setting it up, but you can always disable the page until you are ready to publish. You also do not need to do all of these steps in one sitting.

Step Six: Test the Automation

Test the link with a family member/friend, an assistant or your own email. If it works, there should be an email in Flodesk under that segment, and the recipient should receive an email.

Collect Emails in Squarespace

There are other options for collecting email addresses in Squarespace, and if that would be a helpful tutorial, I will add that to my to-do list. This blog post was solely for collecting waitlist emails, but if you can implement these steps, you are well on your way to automation. And that is good for you, because it makes your life easier.

Swapping out the Workshops

So, your workshop is over. Now what?

Once the workshop is complete, you can unlink the page, disable it, or remove it completely. However, if you will be doing a similar workshop in the future, just disable it. For future workshops, change the date and whatever information needs to be updated and create a new form in Flodesk, or update the old one, and test the link.
